OLD PIGGERY NEW BUILD

Brief:  To design Foundations and Superstructure to a new Detached House.

The pre-development site consisted of fields with an agricultural building acting as a Piggery. The client intended to demolish the building and replace it with a detached house of a similar proportion. It was also a requirement to have exposed timber trusses and purlins in oak. These structural members were designed, resulting in some imposing features. To maintain lateral stability a number of wind-posts were required throughout the structure. The foundations were designed as strip footings as intact mud stone was at a shallow depth.
