Residential Projects

Whilst some engineers view Residential works as simplistic and mundane, SGM views these projects as a chance to be creative whilst achieving the clients needs. SGM have worked on many domestic extensions and attic conversions always attempting to maximise the internal space and have delivered many projects.

A current trend in house building has been to increase efficiency, and SGM have worked on several ‘passivhaus’s’, gaining an understanding of the implications on the structural engineer.

SGM have undertaken numerous Structural Reports and have a large amount of experience in this area. Cracking is a common cause for needing a structural report and determining the cause can be difficult but the pattern can often point to a specific cause. Underpinning, whilst an expensive procedure can prevent further movement and cracking if the foundations are the cause, and SGM take a pragmatic view to this as no job is ever the same as the next. The development of historic or listed buildings, particularly agricultural into new housing is something SGM have been involved with on a regular basis.
